Arrived in a old case. Still works tho.
First look.
First look around, some light damage from previous owner. Has been
gigged with so some expected.
Small paint chip on horn.
And paint chips to base.
Original tension spring configuration.
Remove springs, then remove strings.
Discolouration is quite bad, so decided to spray paint it black.
All original parts are in great
condition other than discolouration.
Hardy any ware on the pivot points.
Locking saddles removed.
Fully stripped Floyd Rose ready for spray painting.
Machine head nut sleeves are
really in there.
Removing machine heads with socket by hand ensures no slips leading to scratches.
Other than the chip to horn, head-stock is in really good condition.
Machine heads are in good condition and I was able to polish away any discolouration, not painting these. so after a good clean and service, they are ready to go back on.
Got head-stock cleaned, waxed ready for refit.
All parts soaked in WD40 & washed thoroughly with soapy water.
Body work is in good condition with only light wear.
Pickup guards are undamaged & and in good condition. Will paint screws as heads have rusted.
No rust on pickup screws, but bays need a clean out.
Cleaned up frets, 1st pass with 180 grit fret eraser.
2nd pass with 400 grit.
3rd pass with 1000 grit, always use masking tape to protect fret-board, tape removed on previous photos, was used tho.
These dental scrapers get out all dirt from edges of frets easily without any marks or scratches.
Once neck had been dusted, used lemon oil for first cleaning pass.
Second pass, after / before.
then wiped off and left to oak in while I move on to cleaning body work.
All dials and pick up selection switch were in good shape and crackle free.
Did paint the switch nut & washer too.
Cleaning body, Step 1 Restore detailer.
After step one.
Whole body stage 2, protection wax.
Back and hydrate the fret-board.
Before / after hydration.
Parts have been painted and dry.
Base, no runs, looks great black too.
starting to rebuild Floyd Rose.
All parts are dry too, neck bolts, plate
& washers, volume and tone dials included.
Locking saddles after paint.
Neck nut and tremolo arm after paint.
Ensure cutouts on block are facing in,
or you will have to take everything apart again.
Fully rebuilt.
Fully rebuilt from back.
Painted neck bolts and spacers look much better black than rusty.
Neck locking nut painted. Care was taken all the way though the cleaning and paint processes not to mix up the original nut order.
Locking nut base back on including base plate.
Before stringing its a good idea to measure pickup screw height with radius gauge.
Set all screws to same radius ark as neck ensures even tone & volume to each string.
Strings on,locking bolts are in place but NOT tight during setup.
Wedge up Floyd Rose to body level, I was able to use rear plate on a cloth to achieve level.
Use plate as a level to adjust all fine tuners to same height & tune up with again with tuning heads.
Iv used a 1.5mm card to find action here. Its just a quick guide.
Action lowered until strings evenly sit just above card, should be able to
play strings and hear them buzz on
against the card.
Fine tune action from both sides evenly with alan key .
Action is now set up with no fret buzz anywhere on neck and even tone and volume on every note.
Time to add the tremolo arm and
start playing, stretching the stings.
Personally I like to lock the nuts and play in using the tremolo arm and repeat the process until l the guitar holds perfect tune. Fine tuners can
be use after this process. If done right you should hardly have to use the
fine tuners no matter how hard you dive bomb the tremolo.
Fully set up and in tune after playing for two hours.
Iv seen some people string this way
so thought i’d try it for a change.
So much fun to play, awesome quality guitar, perfect for any metal head like me.
Finished & Setup. Sounds killer…
Fine tuning used for first time after two weeks of playing.
Finished head-stock.
