Nothing like a guitar delivery.
Arrived really well packaged.
Looks in good condition with no transport damage, in a good quality, after market gig bag
Unpacked, no wonder it was named ‘Beast’, this thing is awesome.
Came with original Owners Manual.
A good sign its been looked after.
After a quick test, a few crackles on jack output and pickup selection switch, checked all wiring and still looks good so just needs connections cleaning. All parts stripped ready for deep clean.
All parts got same treatment, soaked in WD40 for a few hours, bringing off lots of dirt and greese.
Good clean with a old soft brush. All seals are intact and working fine.
After washing with hot soapy water and hand dried, left on radiator to ensure all water has evaporated.
Moving onto cleaning all the pots, lots of dust all adds to the crackles, brushed off and spayed down with switch cleaner then dried off left all the pots clean and crackle free.
Small drop of super glue added to nuts to ensure no movement over time.
After removing through back of guitar service plate, cleaning with brush
then switch cleaner, selection switch sounds like new with firm action again.
Wiring on output jack was good
but all really dusty.
Ready for clean with brush then switch cleaner, thoroughly dried off.
Refitted and tested, no movement now and crackle free.
Fret-board had seen some use.
All frets cleaned with block erasers.
Second pass with 400 grit.
3rd pass with 1000 grit left the frets like new. I use fret erasers to mainly clean and remove light wear marks, filing frets requires a quality fret file and is a whole other process.
Lemon oil used to left some of the dirt.
Second pass with lemon oil
before / after.
After wiping off all lemon oil thoroughly, and leaving to dry, hydrate can be used for final stage of the fret-board deep cleaning.
Fret-board after cleaning.
On to body work, step 1 restore detailer applied following product instructions to all body & head-stock but face only.
Then polishing with appropriate cloth, removing all detaler.
Step 2 wax applied to whole of body and head-stock face. Then Wiped off thoroughly leaving no residue around pots or switches.
Step 3 cleaner add to bring out the final shine. I could tell this guitar had never been cleaned properly.
Guitar maintenance is essential people…
Time to start to rebuild and begin setup.
After the cleaning process time to fit the original machine heads.
Saddles were reset to a default positions for intonation set up later.
Light damage to horn, usual for these guitar shape head-stock but this
one is not too bad. Damage done previously.
Only other previous damage,
small paint chip.
Stringing, at this time I used Ernie ball,
I only use D’Addario now on all my collection. so will be changing again after this set wear out. No other reason just personal preference.
After setup, in standard D tuning.
Low action & perfect intonation with intentional 1mm bow on neck.
Final Head-stock
Final out come… this is one ‘Beast’ of a guitar. Played on a clean channel sounds amazing but with some distortion, can destroy a small city.
