How the guitar arrived.Back of packaging.Still sweating, cold outside, warm inside. Some damage done by Hermes, again. Its really taken a hit.So disappointing to see such a lack of care. All points to back of guitar have been damaged.Original output plate. Will replace or spray black. All the important bits are undamaged and in good condition.Head stock has some damage from previous owner.Wiring connections are all good.Previous owners setup will need re-balancing.Back of guitar is in good shape with no belt buckle rash or scratches.Back of head stock is in good shape and the black tuners look great.Pots & switch work but need cleaning.Time for a full strip down. All fittings ready for a clean & respray.Tuners remover for cleaning, taking care to keep original order.Fully stripped, ready for cleaning. Before first cleaning pass to fret board. After a few passes, original colour started to come out.Light first pass with 180 grit eraser to lift dirt only, not taking away hardly any of the fret surface. After first pass with eraser removing the grim can see light string marks to smooth out with finer grit.Second pass with 400 grit eraser hitting any of them string marks.Final pass with 1000 grit got frets looking like new.Totally stripped Floyd Rose ready for cleaning. After cleaning some fittings and parts go to spray.Locking screws ready for spray.Saddles ready for spray.Locking screws after paint.Saddles after paint.Moving on to clean the noisy pots and switch, all original and still in good condition after a clean.Head stock Stage 1 cleaning with detailer.Body Stage 1 cleaning with detailer.Head stock Stage 2 cleaning, wax layer.Body Stage 2 cleaning, wax layer. The adjustable pickup post screws are quite corroded, ordered some black replacements & will update this page once they arrive. After all cleaning, ready to start the re build.Checking all tuner mounting screws and holes for any cleaning products. All cleaned and serviced original tuners and painted nut clamp base. Looks brand new.Finished head stock from back.Final check over all body, the original plastic pickup guards had to go.Replaced with metal set of pickup guards.Metal pickup guards fitted.Time to re-fit the neck.Original bolts, same holes. Bolts got painted. These bolts have to be very tight but not so tight they crack the paint around neck joint.Re assemble Floyd Rose after cleaning and some parts painted. The saddles and fittings came out like new after painting.Fully re-built looks new.I like to use 10,13,17,26,36,46 on my personal guitars tuned to E standard.Fitting all strings to Floyd Rose while off guitar is a good way not to risk any scratches, mounted in a vice can get a good, tight fitting.Ensure all strings are lined up with saddle grooves to prevent any movement during tuning.Tuning up.And intonation, more tuning.Finished Head stock.Finished Body, just those pickup poles…This sounds just awesome, The licenced, German made Floyd Rose holds tune perfect and other than the cosmetic damage to the body this guitar is one of my favourite BC Rich so far.
